Anti Ragging at ITS

Ragging is a criminal offence as per the Supreme Court verdict and an  an offence under penal code , which define ragging as:


Ragging is now defined as an act that violates or is perceived to violate an individual student's dignity. Following Supreme Court orders, a National Anti-Ragging Helpline was launched by the Indian government. ... Ragging in India commonly involves serious abuses and clear violations of human rights.


"Ragging in all its forms is totally banned in this institution including in its departments, constituent units, all its premises (academic, residential, sports, , cafeteria  located within the campus. Strict action including but not limited to criminal proceeding and/or cancellation of admission against those found guilty of ragging and/or of abetting ragging would lie on the perpetrator  and not on the victim. An offence of Ragging may be charged either on a written complaint by the affected or on independent finding of the Anti Ragging Squad.

It would be very heartening for all students and parents to know that  the Institute has taken all the necessary steps for prohibition and prevention to  eliminate  the menace of ragging from the campus, hostel, playground, and canteen area.


All Student should desist from participating / doing any such activity which is against their will, even if the same is forced  by the senior students. All such  attempts of ragging should be promptly reported to the ‘Anti Ragging Squad’ or to the Warden or Dean Student welfare or to the Head of the Institution, as the case may be.

RAGGING IS TOTALLY PROHIBITED IN AND OUTSIDE THE INSTITUTE AND ANYONE FOUND GUILTY OF RAGGING AND/OR ABATING RAGGING WHETHER ACTIVELY OR PASSIVELY IS LIABLE TO BE PUNISHED IN ACCORDANCE WITH “UGC REGULATIONS ON CURBING THE MENACE OF RAGGING IN HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION 2009” AS WELL AS ANY OTHER PROVISION OF ANY PENAL LAW FOR THE TIME BEING IN FORCE.EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION 2009” AS WELL AS ANY OTHER PROVISION OF ANY PENAL LAW FOR THE TIME BEING IN FORCE.


What constitutes Ragging

In view of the directions of the Honorable Supreme to prohibit, prevent and eliminate these courage of ragging, , the All India Council for Technical Education has notified Regulations for prevention and prohibition of ragging in AICTE approved Technical Institutions All AICTE approved Technical Institutions have to comply with the provision made in the above Regulations. Any violation of above AICTE Regulations for the prevention and prohibition of ragging, shall call for punitive action against erring Institutions as per the provisions made in the above said Regulations.


The Institutions shall have to step up Anti-Ragging mechanism by way of adequate publicity through various mediums:

Constitution of Anti-Ragging Committee and Anti Ragging Squad;

Setting up of Anti-Ragging Cell;

Installing CCTV cameras at vital points;

Anti-Ragging Workshops;

Updating all Web sites with Nodal Officers complete details, alarm bells etc.;

Regular interaction and counselling with the students;

Identification of trouble-triggers;

Mention of Anti-Ragging warning in the Institution’s prospectus and information Booklets/Brochures shall be ensured;

Surprise inspection of hostels, student accommodation, canteens, rest cum recreational rooms, toilets, bus-stands and any other measures which would augur well in preventing/ quelling ragging and any uncalled for behaviour/ incident shall be undertaken.

Holding of Workshops and Seminars on eradication of ragging in higher Educational Institutions. 


Display  of Anti Ragging posters at all prominent places such as Admission Centre, Departments, Library, Canteen, Hostel, Common facilities etc.

Compulsory for each student and every parent to submit an online undertaking every academic year at www.antiragging.in and www.amanmovement.org.

Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness the freshers or any other students. Including in rowdy or undisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student.


Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student.


Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher.


Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.


Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students.


Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: Sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health of person.


Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insult which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from activity or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other students.


Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student.


With or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by student over any fresher or any other student.
